It was announced last week that next season of FOX’s American Idol will be its last. Despite marking the end of an era, congratulations are still in order for Nick Fradiani who is the winner of season 14! Mentions of American Idol caused the program to jump from beyond the Top 20 to #6 this week. The last time American Idol ranked this high was the premiere of season 12 back in January 2013!
Another singing competition will be concluding this week as the final four contestants battle it out to be the winner of NBC’s The Voice. Last week’s 14th most mentioned program has moved up five places to #9 this week. ABC’s Dancing with the Stars will also be choosing a champion this week and mentions of the program helped move it up four spots to #12.
Tough week for superhero shows as CW’s The Flash (#13) and Arrow (#15) fell by six and five spots respectively while Netflix’s Daredevil also fell five spots to #20 and FOX’s Gotham fell from #12 to out of the Top 20 entirely. Both Gotham and Arrow have already aired their respective finales while The Flash will be doing so this week so a decline in mentions is to be expected.
New programs in our Top 20: FOX’s American Idol (#6), ABC’s Modern Family (#17) and NBC’s Law and Order (#18).
No longer in our Top 20 this week: FOX’s Gotham (previously #12), CBS’ Survivor (previously #18) and CW’s Supernatural (previously #20).
Each week, Ipsos MediaCT TV Dailies seeks to find out what television shows have people talking. Collecting over 5,000 unaided responses among persons ages 13-64, TV Dailies produces a top of mind awareness meter (TOMAmeter) that details the 20 most spontaneously mentioned television shows.
Here are your TOMAmeter results for May 11 – 17.
