FX’s Sons of Anarchy returned for its final ride this past week and rode a hot premiere right into the Top 5. Sons of Anarchy came in at #4 which is the highest placement we’ve seen during the program’s illustrious seven seasons. The show finished four places higher than last year’s premiere.
Netflix’s Orange is the New Black has suffered back to back weeks of falling in our rankings and is now down to #6. This marks the first time the hit online program has fallen out of the Top 5 since May.
New fall broadcast programs continue to climb into the Top 20 as we push into September. Fox’s Utopia and ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder make their debuts at #14 and #15 respectively. FOX’s Gotham continues to lead the pack despite falling one spot to #8, while CBS’ Scorpion was only able to keep pace for one week after missing the cut this week.
FX’s Sons of Anarchy isn’t the only popular cable drama to be airing its final season this fall. HBO’s Boardwalk Empire returned to the air and also to the Top 20 landing at #19. The addition of Boardwalk Empire gives HBO an impressive three of the most mentioned programs in our Top 20 this week.
ABC is making a strong push at becoming the most represented network in our Top 20. With two programs making the final cut this week, ABC is now up to four programs but still falls one short of CBS which came in with five of the most mentioned programs this week.
New programs in our Top 20: FOX’s Utopia (#14), ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder (#15) and Dancing with the Stars (#16), HBO’s Boardwalk Empire (#19) and CBS’ CSI (#20).
No longer in our Top 20 this week: ABC’s Modern Family (previously #15), CBS’ Scorpion (previously #16), FOX’s Family Guy (previously #18), FX’s The Strain (previously #19) and BBC America’s Dr. Who (previously #20).
