Greetings TV aficionados and experts! This blog post represents the first TOMAmeter that we will be issuing on a monthly basis.
In December of 2015, we saw that comic book super heroes grow in their domination of the TV landscape in terms of unaided mention, with a quarter of the top twenty programs being superhero starrers from the Marvel or DC franchises. Between longtime TV Dailies stalwarts like The Flash and Arrow and newcomers like Supergirl and Jessica Jones, it’s never been a better time for superhero fans to enjoy their favorite costumed heroes on the small screen.
The month of December also featured several event programs that, while not earning top mention in the TOMAmeter, did achieve noteworthy rankings among specific demographics. NBC’s The Wiz LIVE! earned 41st place among total respondents, but 12th place among African American respondents.
Leading in the TOMAmeter this month is CBS, with four programs among the leaders; other leaders include ABC and The CW with 3 apiece.
Every month, Ipsos MediaCT TV Dailies seeks to find out what television shows have people talking. Collecting over 5,000 unaided responses among persons ages 13-64, TV Dailies produces a top of mind awareness meter (TOMAmeter) that details the 20 most spontaneously mentioned television shows.
Here are your TOMAmeter results for December 2015.
