TOMAmeter August 4 – 10: True Blood Creeps Into Top 5

With the series finale right around the corner, HBO’s True Blood jumped up three places in our rankings and enters the Top 5 for the first time. Our 5th most mentioned program gives HBO two programs in the Top 5 with Game of Thrones sitting steady at #4.

FOX’s new fall program Gotham continues to outpace its counterparts on our TOMAmeter, moving up three spots to #14. The show remains the only new fall program in the Top 20.

Preseason football kicked off last week and mentions of the NFL were strong enough to propel the sport back into our Top 20, landing at #17. We last saw the NFL in our TOMAmeter back in February when the Super Bowl concluded.

The Week 2 Quarterfinals of NBC’s America’s Got Talent did not have our respondents buzzing, but mentions were still strong enough to keep it in the Top 20, finishing at #18 which was down nine places from last week.

After nearly falling out of the Top 20 in past few weeks, AMC’s Breaking Bad has finally missed the cut for the first time since April. Look for a strong bounce back next week as AMC is currently airing a marathon of episodes each Sunday until October.

With the addition of CSI to the Top 20, CBS is back to having seven of the 20 most mentioned programs this week. Well behind CBS is FOX, HBO and NBC which each had two programs apiece.

New programs in our Top 20: CBS’ CSI (#16), NFL/Superbowl (#17), ABC’s Modern Family (#19) and NBC’s Law and Order (#20).

No longer in our Top 20 this week: ABC’s The Bachelorette (previously #16) and Once Upon a Time (previously #18), AMC’s Breaking Bad (previously #18) and CW’s Supernatural (previously #20).

Each week, Ipsos MediaCT TV Dailies seeks to find out what television shows have people talking. Collecting over 5,000 unaided responses among persons ages 13-64, TV Dailies produces a top of mind awareness meter (TOMAmeter) that details the 20 most spontaneously mentioned television shows.

Here are your TOMAmeter results for August 4– 10.
